چکیده

We present a new scalable approach for the K-staged twodimensional cutting stock problem with variable sheet size, particularly aiming to solve large-scale instances from industry. A construction heuristic exploiting the congruency of subpatterns efficiently computes sheet patterns of high quality. This heuristic is embedded in a beam-search framework to allow for a meaningful selection from the available sheet types. Computational experiments on benchmark instances show the effectiveness of our approach and demonstrate its scalability.

A Scalable Approach for the K-Staged Two-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem

This work focuses on the K-staged two-dimensional cutting stock problem with variable sheet size. High-quality solutions are computed by an efficient beam-search algorithm that exploits the congruency of subpatterns and takes informed decisions on which of the available sheet types to use for the solutions. We extend this algorithm by embedding it in a sequential value-correction framework that...

A simple approach to the two-dimensional guillotine cutting stock problem

Cutting stock problems are within knapsack optimization problems and are considered as a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard problem. In this paper, two-dimensional cutting stock problems were presented in which items and stocks were rectangular and cuttings were guillotine. First, a new, practical, rapid, and heuristic method was proposed for such problems. Then, the ...

Solving the 3-Staged 2-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem by Dynamic Programming and Variable Neighborhood Search

We present a variable neighborhood search (VNS) for the 3-staged 2-dimensional cutting stock problem employing “ruin-and-recreate”-based very large neighborhood search in which parts of the incumbent solution are destroyed and rebuilt using construction heuristics and dynamic programming. Experimental results show that for instances where the sizes of the elements are not too small compared to ...

A Variable Neighborhood Search Using Very Large Neighborhood Structures for the 3-Staged 2-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem

In this work we consider the 3-staged 2-dimensional cutting stock problem, which appears in many real-world applications such as glass and wood cutting and various scheduling tasks. We suggest a variable neighborhood search (VNS) employing “ruin-and-recreate”based very large neighborhood searches (VLNS). We further present a polynomial-sized integer linear programming model (ILP) for solving th...

An Algorithm for Two Dimensional Cutting Stock Problems with Demand

In this paper, two-dimensional cutting stock problem with demand has been studied. In this problem, cutting of large rectangular sheets into specific small pieces should be carried out hence, the waste will be minimized. Solving this problem is important to decrease waste materials in any industry that requires cutting of sheets. In most previus studies, the demand of pieces has not been usually...
